ACP Magazines acquires recipes+
March 02
ACP Magazines has acquired mass market food title recipes+ in a deal both parties describe as the perfect fit.
With Gourmet Traveller at the premium end of food and wine magazine category (Audit Bureau of Circulations 74,357) and the hot selling Good Food (ABC 80,838) occupying the aspirational middle ground, recipes+ (ABC 133,876) gives ACP a mass market food play for the first time.
recipes+ was launched in 2003 by independent publisher Knockout Media Pty Ltd as a $2.60 cover price quarterly, aimed at budget conscious cooks. It increased frequency to bi-monthly in May 2007 before switching to monthly frequency a year later. The cover price was increased to $3.30 last July.
“The successful launch of Good Food in 2008 and now the acquisition of recipes+ is part of our long term strategy to be the new force in food publishing,” said Phil Scott, Publishing Director of ACP Men’s, Specialist & Custom. “When Knockout Media approached us, it was a perfect fit. We have admired the magazine for some time.”
recipes+ is the only title published by Knockout Media.
“When we decided to sell, we talked to several publishers, but felt most comfortable with ACP’s approach to the magazine and its commitment to the values that have made it successful,” saidRoger Nitz, Managing Director of Knockout Media.
“This is a great outcome for the staff and contributors of recipes+, as ACP has the resources and the publishing track record with Good Food and Gourmet to take the battle to News Ltd’s food titles, particularly SuperFood Ideas and Good Taste.”
Commercial terms remain confidential with the transaction subject to the usual regulatory approval, ACP said.
